MOspace, University of Missouri, 2025 — A mixed-methods investigation of suburban local news coverage examining how race and geography shape reporting priorities in Nassau County, NY. This sole-author study combines a quantitative content analysis of hyperlocal print and broadcast coverage with qualitative textual review to assess disparities in story volume, framing, sourcing, and subject emphasis across communities. Findings show that communities of color receive less sustained civic and resource-focused coverage and are more frequently associated with crime-centered narratives, reinforcing structural inequities in information access. This project offers data-driven recommendations for improving equity, accountability, and community representation in suburban journalism.
